Theme challenge at The Paper Players : Bicycle

Hi there!

There is something about a card with a bicycle on it that steels my heart. Time after time! Don't know why, but it's just a fun element to use !

I remember my high school days, riding my bicycle to school on COLD Winter's mornings and windy and HOT Summer afternoons. That wasn't so much fun though... but I still have the calves to show after all these years ;)

Needless to say , I had so much fun designing and making this card to inspire you to join the challenge at the paper players this week!

Here it is:

As always I saved my sentiment for those who may want to use it.

Life is a beautiful ride free card sentiment

You can find more sentiments under the free sentiment labels in my sidebar, or on my Pinterest board "my card sentiments".

The girl on her bicycle is a free clipart image I found here. I traced it in the Silhouette studio to convert it to a cutting file.
I added my own sentiment and used patterned paper from Mel Stamps (link in sidebar).

I am playing along a couple of other challenges:

Freshly made sketches  ~ Sketch flipped to portrait orientation.

Color throwdown  ~ Yellow, navy and white

One layer geometrics

Hi there!

If you tried it once... you're hooked. But in a good way. I promise :)

That's foil. On cards. Just like heat embossing, there is something magical about removing the foil and seeing the glorious shine. Doesn't really matter what color... but the gold looks awesome, don't you think!?

This is what I am talking about...

Deco foil card ideas

Close up sharper angle:

I created the sentiment by playing around with the font Weem, in a similar way that Kerri did here.

I created the frame by manipulating a digital paper template from The Pixel Scrapper in the Silhouette studio, then printed the whole thing in black using a laser printer and added (rose) gold Deco Foil with a laminator.

I do believe this would be regarded as one layer in the same way that heat embossing would be ?

As always I share my digital stamps :

My 'sprout' is a cutting file from the silhouette online store. I printed it in black with a laser printer and added the beautiful green with the laminator foiling technique.

The background was stamped in Versafine black with a background stamp from Great Impressions South-Africa.
The sentiment is my own and I will share it at the end of the post.

The Paper Players: Western

Hi there!

We have a wonderful new challenge at The Paper Players  this week! Laurie is our hostess and she has an exciting theme challenge:

The perfect opportunity for me to make a masculine card... however... if you visit the challenge blog you will see more inspiration from the team in a variety of styles and takes... not only masculine!

Cowboy birthday card

A close up of the focal point:

Cowboy birthday card

I think this is the first time I made a masculine card I really really like!

The background is once again from The Pixel scrapper. The cowboy hat is a free clipart image, traced in the Silhouette studio to create cutting lines.

The sentiment is my own creation using the font bleeding cowboy. Awesome font perfect for the occasion!

Final touches 3 copper brads and a piece of twine, because every cowboy needs a rope!

You are welcome to use my sentiment :

I used inspiration from 3 other challenges to create my card:

Freshly made sketches  ~ Layout

Less is more ~ white space but not white

The male room challenge ~ magic/fantasy (because in my world, a cowboy is a fantasy figure ;)

Have a great week.

CASology : Washi

Hi there!

We were amazed by all the weather inspired cards in the gallery last week at CASology !

While on the topic of weather... as I am typing here, Sugar and I just returned from our morning walk... sandblasted!
Yep, it's that time of the year in the UAE when the shamal wind comes and deposits all the sand it picks up on its way from Saudi Arabia... right here !
It means the season is changing. Not so slowly, but surely yes!

BUT!!! I am actually not here to talk about the weather again... we have a new cue card to inspire your designs!

Oh boy so many ways to incorporate washi on your cards... if you get stuck, remember Pinterest has a wealth of washi ideas!

I love the look of negative space filled with washi... and this is my card:

An a close up:

I used one bunny image from the Silhouette online store, created a mirror image and filled the negative space by applying 2 different patterns of washi tape to the card base.
I completed the card with my own sentiment (shared below) and a heart embellishment punched from a piece of scrap covered with the same tape.

CASology : weather

Hi there!

We loved your doodled designs last week, and today we bring you a new cue card at CASology!

We woke up this morning listening to rain against the windows and the sound of the wind howling around the corners of our villa. Not something that happens often here, so I'm loving every moment of the rainy weather.

We had a severe storm about 2 weeks ago, with lots of up rooted trees and damage to buildings. It was really scary and something the UAE ( I think )  has never seen before.
You can take a look at some interesting statistics about THE STORM over HERE.

So... today is a good day to share a weather related card!

I did some organizing last week, and found a few gems in my drawers. If you remember Fiskars texture plates, you have been crafting for a long time... like me ! It was the only way to add texture to your cards and it was hard work to get a reasonable effect. Do yourself a favor and check out THIS VIDEO on You Tube!

I found a new (to me ) way to use those old texture plates. Similar to stamping with embossing folders, I just rubbed some distress inks to it, spritzed with water, 'stamp' and there you go, so easy with a lovely effect!
I added an umbrella and flower from the wooden flourishes by KAISERCRAFT, enamel dots and my own sentiment which I will share at the end of this looooong post ;)

CASology : Doodle

Hi there!

I think you are going to have so much fun with this week's cue card at CASology !

Doodled hello

I designed my card in the Silhouette studio. The doodle borders are from the online store (sketch designs) and of course I did it with a black sketch pen.

The hello is a digital stamp I created and I will share it at the end of this post.

I added die cut flowers (Sizzix) in rainbow colors to finish off the design.

Need more inspiration ? ... my teammates are ready for your visit !

I LOVE the graphic look of Chrissy's sketch and decided to honor the sketch by not trying to "interpret" it ;)

Decofoil happy birthday card

I applied gold and copper Deco foil on the 3 panels and sentiment, after I designed it in the Silhouette Studio and cut it with my Silhouette.

CASology : Distress

Hi there!

It's time for a new challenge at CASology !

The cue this week is :

Hmmm not something you see me doing too often (that's on a card ;) Stress I do from time to time, but distressing... not so much!

So with my thinking cap on, my mind wandered to distressed jeans... and a damsel daisy in distress, and a card was born!

Daisy in distress

Although I seldom use any distress techniques on my cards, I was surprised to see what an easy way it is to add texture to a design!

Daisy in distress

To create the distressed looking pocket, I just folded a piece of lightweight card stock a couple of times, gave it a light scrunch, opened it and smeared it lightly with faded jeans distress ink.

I framed it with a silhouette cut 'frame' cut from denim patterned paper.

Added my favorite pink daisy and some silver glittered 'rivets'.

Finished off the card with an older sentiment you can find here.

The team at Less is more wants to see some added texture this week, so I am heading over to join Chrissie and the girls with my textured distress jeans card ;)
